O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;   To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.   Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.   Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. (Psalms 63:1-4 AV)

Have you experienced spiritual thirst of the soul? Have you desired to see and know more of God and His glory? I’m sure that if you are busy about His work, you have been thirsty many times. We are surely filled when He sends us off at His bidding, filled with His Holy zeal, a zeal for the gathering of the harvest of souls. We labor and are spent, we witness and are disappointed, we minister and are rejected., and all these come so quickly, so heavily on our souls and spirits. Then the thirst comes, and the great desire to enter into the glory of the Lord, and to see His power.

As with King David, so with the Apostle Paul, and so with us as we also obey our Lord, to glorify Him in our work, walk, and talk. Paul in his times of great thirst for the Lord’s presence and power remarked that, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.   But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.   For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:   Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. (Philippians 1:21-24 AV). Paul here is saying  what David said, “my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land”.

But, neither did David nor Paul fail in their call and zeal to continue with the Lord, and neither will we if we come to know the POWER of God in our lives. Jesus told His Disciples that, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8 AV) If we will actively obey Jesus’ commission to go into the world preaching His Gospel, He will faithfully provide this anointing for our help and His glory. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.   And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;   Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:15-17 AV)

The Spirit of Truth is the Holy Ghost, of whom the Lord said ,”ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” Obedience through faith in God’s Word will prevail for us in our need for POWER to serve Him. Paul’s appraisal of the Corinthian church was based upon his observation of their POWER. “But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.   For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. (1 Corinthians 4:19-20 AV)

The power of God in our lives is essential if we are to bring glory to Him and His Kingdom, but without His anointing, there is no power, because the anointing is in and through Christ and His baptism ministry. John the Baptist declared, referring to Jesus, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: (Mat 3:11 AV)

When you know you are responsible to be busy with God’s work, and make excuses for your lack of care for Him, surely you are under conviction and should repent and get busy. Your faith without your works is dead; if your faith is dead, so is your hope unless you give God your life to glorify Him. When you do, you will join King David and the Apostle Paul in your thirst to see the POWER and GLORY of the Lord. Here is where the blessings are, because each of these saints have seen His power and glory, and are in His presence today. Will you join Christ’s workers today? Please heed His word for your salvation and joy when your thirst from your labors bring His power and glory to you.
